Tender Buttons

Motion

A  typographic animation based on a short passage from Gertrude Stein’s poetry in the book Tender Buttons - which is considered one of the most innovative pieces of Modernist writing.

Lovely snipe and tender turn, excellent vapor and slender butter, all the splinter and the trunk, all the poisonous darkening drunk, all the joy in weak success, all the joyful tenderness, all the section and the tea, all the stouter symmetry.

Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is considered one of the most innovative pieces of Modernist writing. Published in 1914, this collection of experimental verses is celebrated for its abstract qualities — the sounds and rhythms of the words.

I strived to express a vignette using shape, type, color, and movement in an abstract storyline.
